October 19, 2011: Women & Girls Speaking Through Time: Diary Writing—Program

Cornelia will once again be at the Sewall Belmont House and Museum in Washington D.C ,.offering a program on October 19th at noon.

For this program at the Sewall-Belmont House and Museum http://www.sewallbelmont.org Cornelia will be talking about diaries as a valuable repository of women’s and girl’s voices that speak to us through time, bringing vivid portraits of our histories (herstories).  She will read excerpts from the diaries of ordinary and well-known girls and women from various time periods.  Participants are asked to bring a paragraph to share from their own diaries or those of women in their families.

Cornelia is writing Volume 146 of a diary which she has kept for thirty years.  Her volumes are being archived at the Schlesinger Library on the HIstory of Women in America http://www.radcliffe.edu/schlesinger_library.aspx.  See “Through My Eyes” for her description of “Life in the Archives.”
